March 6th

We started the day by doing on our journals for the week. Please could you please ensure that all journals and red reading dossiers come back on Monday. Extra reading tracking sheets were given to all students and we have spares in the classroom.

Our GOTD was Guy Fawkes, who tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605. We also discussed Internal Women's Day and talked about how important it is to get more females involved in politics. In the U.K, only 1/3 of politicians are girls. We saw interviews from MPs from all walks of life who told us :  "it doesn't matter if you are a boy or a girl, rich or poor - everyone can get involved in politics, everyone has to power to make a difference. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Madame McCann came to work with us and we looked at some French texts to try and decide what the main idea was. She left very impressed by our skills!

Just before the bell, we had a session with AJ from Sound Kreations where we played some cool dance based games in gym.

Maths challenge clarification:

I had some questions regarding the Maths word puzzle on my previous blog post. I am only asking students to pick one of those challenges ( if you want to do both, you can do by all means) and the numbers were up to 30 for the first challenge and 1000 for the second.  That means that if you want the challenge of writing your puzzle entirely in French, but don't feel confident using a big number, that is absolutely fine. It was not my intention to set a daunting challenge at all. If you would prefer to use a smaller number for your puzzle like 10, that is okay!

For example: I am going to Disneyland with my family. In my family there are 10 people and we need to book hotel rooms. 2 people can sleep in each room. How many rooms will I need to book so that everyone can stay at the hotel?

10 / 2 = 5.  How many different ways can you make the number 5 using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

I am going to start putting up some spelling words that we will do a test on Fridays. Please find a link below to the spelling words to practise. You do not need to create an account, but it would make using the site easier if you wish to track scores/ improvement.

We will be sharing our ideas for our word puzzles on Monday. It doesn't not have to be completed, just some ideas of what you would like to do would be great.

                                                     Wellness presentations:

It has been great to see some people working on their presentations that they would like to share with the class. If you have made something in Google drive and you would like to me to look over it, share it with me through the app: parichardson@educbe.ca      I will put notes/comments on your presentation. Think over the weekend something about your life that you would like to share with the class.

Some ideas:
- Teach us some words from your language
- What are some interesting festivals / clothes that people wear in your culture?
- Talk to us about your religion
- Does anyone in the family have an interesting story or job that they would like to share with the class?
- Maybe your family are from another country. What was it like? What can we see or do there? How is it different to Canada?

I would like these to incorporate French, but I do not want the language to be a barrier to sharing. Please feel free to talk/present/share in English where necessary. We will begin these presentations later on in the week for those that are ready. It does not have to be very long at all.
