Jan 24

We started the day by reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. We then had a sharing circle in which we discussed our plans for the weekend.
Madame Moreau came in to help us practise measuring and we had some silent reading time. In science we discussed how sonic booms are made and we learnt that the speed of sound is approximately 1,200 km/h.
Our GOTD was Barnes Wallis and his bouncing bomb.

A note from Madame Brinson:

On February 12, students are welcome to bring Valentine Cards to school if they choose.  If your child does choose to participate, please have them bring one for each student in their class.  Please do not send any candy, food or toys with the Valentines to school . Any food or candy that arrives at the school will not be sent home with other children.  Thank you for your understanding.  Valentines that have games/activities attached as part of their design will be permitted.

A note from Madame McCann

Hello families,

Our ultimate goal as teachers and parents is to raise lifelong readers.

On Thursday, February 6th at 6:30 pm, parents are invited to Varsity’s first Literacy Night.

Parents and guardians are invited to Join teacher Mme Jennifer McCann for a session covering how children learn to read, what the current research tells us is most effective and important, and how to best support your child.  A question and answer period will follow.

Although this presentation is best suited for parents with students in K-3, anyone is welcome to attend.

Please register online: https://forms.gle/585rrbPeSx5Krtf2A if you are able to attend.  We ask families to please arrange childcare and that only adults attend.  Thanks!

Have a great weekend!
